Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, says God uplifts certain people to exalted positions on trust in order to assist the majority of the people.
Engr. Ikuru said this today when the Old Boys Association (1985 set) of the Kalabari National College (KNC), Buguma, fondly called “KANACOL ‘85” visited him in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Emphasizing the fact that challenges are easily overcome when shared with others, the Deputy Governor noted that this process of sharing challenges enabled the 1985 set of the college to excel, reiterating that his position is not only to serve himself and immediate family but is given him by God on trust for the benefit of his community, friends, State and nation.
“I am not the most brilliant, handsome or worthy but by the grace of God Almighty who has placed me here on trust to serve my nation, State and friends,” he said, assuring that he would continue to assist the people whenever he is called upon to do so.
Earlier, president of the association, Mr. Iwoyeofori Wokoma, said that the major challenge facing the association is on how to restore the fame of the college, lamenting the lack of adequate teachers, infrastructure and other amenities, while appealing for assistance.
Mr. Wokoma also pointed out that some of their colleagues are yet to be gainfully employed and as such unable to with life challenges, calling on the government to initiate people-oriented policies that would generate employment for majority of the people.
