Retired Brigadier General Paul Boroh
has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the new coordinator of the
Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, replacing Kingsley Kuku.
This is yet another instance where loyalists
of former President Goodluck Jonathan have continued to receive the boot under
the new dispensation. The Ondo State born Kingsley Kuku drew the ire of the
President when he wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),
through his lawyers that he won’t be honouring their invitation due to his
undergoing a knee surgery in the United States but will be available by
September.
In a statement today by Special
Adviser on Media to the President, Femi Adesina, the President announced that
Boroh’s appointment takes immediate effect.
The retired
general served at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Department of Administration until
September 24, 2010 when he was redeployed as Commandant, Nigerian Army Peace
Keeping Centre, Jaji.
The appointment of a new Coordinator
for the Amnesty Programme became necessary to speed up the resolution of recent
hitches in its implementation such as the non-payment of outstanding allowances
to ex-militants, Mr. Adesina said in a statement.
